l&m studio is a collaborative project by Meg Oliver and Lucie Piedra. We opened our studio in September, 2011 to design and make sleek, modern, handmade items for the home and garden. Our designs begin with the function of each piece in mind. Birdhouses, for example, have a flanged lid for cleaning and cups are ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in hand. Our planters act as a sculptural frame for plants and also provide drainage and protect surfaces from water damage. All of our items are made from our own recipe for a durable, creamy, white porcelain.
Every piece is designed, made, glazed and fired by us in our store-front studio in historic Catskill, NY.

Both graduates of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Meg Oliver, a functional potter, and Lucie Piedra, a sculptor, opened l&m studio in September 2011 to start a collaborative line of porcelain items, focusing on containers and houses for living things, designed with the specific needs of the inhabitants in mind.
Everything at l&m studio is designed and made by us, Meg and Lucie, in our storefront studio on Main Street in Catskill, New York. We start by making a model out of clay or wood. We then make a plaster mold from the model. After the mold dries we can then pour porcelain slip into the mold creating multiple porcelain copies of the original model. The pieces are then sanded, bisque fired, sanded again, washed and glazed and then re-fired to 2232 degrees creating the final vitreous porcelain piece.
